Privacy Policy

Your data stays on your device.

This Privacy Policy explains what information Sober Tracker collects, how it is stored, and the third-party services involved. It applies to the Sober Tracker mobile application on iOS and Android.

Information we collect

Sober Tracker is designed to be private by default. The app does not require an account and does not transmit your sobriety data, journal entries, mood logs, savings, or any personal information to our servers. We do not operate a server that receives this data.

Specifically, we do not collect:

  • Your name, email address, phone number, or any identifying information.
  • Access to your contacts, photos, location, microphone, or camera unless you explicitly grant a permission for a specific action (e.g. exporting a file).
  • Any third-party analytics SDKs, advertising trackers, pixel beacons, or usage telemetry. The app does not include Firebase Analytics, Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, or any equivalent service.

How your data is stored

All data you create inside the app is stored exclusively on your device, in a local database. This includes:

  • Your sobriety start date and streak history
  • Journal entries and mood logs
  • Achievements and milestones reached
  • Savings amounts, drink costs, and goals
  • Recovery garden state and plant selection
  • Notification preferences, theme choices, and other settings

Third-party services

Sober Tracker uses a small number of third-party services strictly to deliver functionality you have requested. None of them receive your sobriety data, journal content, or any personal identifiers.

Subscription validation (RevenueCat). If you purchase a premium subscription or a one-time upgrade, the app uses RevenueCat to confirm your purchase with the App Store or Google Play. RevenueCat receives a platform receipt token and an anonymous app-instance identifier so it can tell the app whether your purchase is active. RevenueCat does not receive your name, email address, payment details, or any sobriety data. RevenueCat’s privacy policy: revenuecat.com/privacy.

Payment processing (Apple App Store, Google Play). All purchases are billed and processed by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies and terms. We never see your payment details, billing address, or account information.

Platform operating-system services. Standard device features (local notifications, file storage, file picker, share sheet) operate on the device under Apple’s or Google’s privacy policies. No data passes through our servers because we do not have any.

Permissions

The app requests a small number of permissions, only when needed and only for the action you initiate:

  • Notifications: to schedule the daily check-in reminders you opt into. All notifications are scheduled locally on your device. There is no push server.
  • File access: only when you choose to export your data, import a backup, or share a milestone screenshot.

Data security

Because your sobriety data is stored locally, its security is protected by your device’s operating system, the lock screen / passcode you have set, and any device-level encryption your operating system provides by default (e.g. Apple’s Data Protection, Android File-Based Encryption).

We recommend keeping your operating system up to date and using a strong passcode, biometric lock, or both.

Your rights

You have complete control over your data at any time:

  • Access — every record the app stores is visible in its corresponding screen.
  • Export — you can export your full data set as a JSON file from Settings.
  • Correction — every field can be edited or deleted inside the app.
  • Deletion — you can wipe all data from Settings, or uninstall the app to remove everything immediately.

Children’s privacy

Sober Tracker is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum digital consent age in your jurisdiction). The app is intended for adults reflecting on their own relationship with alcohol. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If a child has installed the app, no data has been transmitted off the device — uninstalling the app deletes everything immediately.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the app or to clarify language. When we do, the revised policy will appear on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. Continued use of the app after a change is posted means you accept the revised policy. We cannot email you about changes because we do not have your email — please check this page if material updates matter to you.
