About

Why Sober Tracker exists.

Sober Tracker is a private, account-free companion for people working on their relationship with alcohol. No login, no cloud, no shaming. Just a calm tool that grows with you, from day one to year one.

Built for the person tracking, not the database.

Every other sobriety app started by asking for an email, a profile, a community invite. Sober Tracker starts with a counter and a plant. Your streak, journal, garden, savings, and mood logs all live on your device — never on a server we control, because we don’t run one.

It runs offline. It works on a plane, in a basement, at three in the morning. The data you create is yours and only yours.

The person who made it.

Sober Tracker is built by Tilak Shakya, an independent developer. The first version was a few screens written for a single specific problem: every app on the App Store wanted an account and a subscription before it would show a sober day count. So this one was made without either.

It is still maintained by one person, which is why the answers to emails come back signed by a human.

What the app will and won’t do.

A few promises the app holds itself to, written down so you can hold us to them too:

  • No accounts. No signup, no login, no email gating. The app opens to the counter the first time you launch it.
  • No cloud sync. Your data lives in a local database on your device. We don’t back it up because we never receive it.
  • No analytics on what you write. No Firebase, no Mixpanel, no Amplitude. We can’t read your journal because we can’t reach it.
  • No ads, ever. The app is free to use. Premium funds development by adding plant types, themes, and power tools — it does not paywall the recovery tools.
  • No social features. There is no feed, no following, no leaderboard. Recovery is a private project.
  • No data sale. There is nothing to sell. There is nothing to share. There is nothing that leaves your phone.

Recovery isn’t linear.

The hardest piece of writing software for sobriety is what to do when someone slips. Most apps reset everything to zero and ask the user to start over. Sober Tracker doesn’t.

A lapse logs as a lapse. A relapse logs as a relapse. The garden you grew stays where it is, and a new plant starts beside it. Achievements you earned stay yours. The app honors the work you actually did, not just the streak number at the top of the screen.

At a glance.

The basics, in one place:

  • Free to start on iPhone and Android. No paywall on the counter, journal, garden, achievements, insights, or health timeline.
  • Localized in 37 languages, including Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Hindi, Arabic, and more.
  • Offline by design. Everything works without a connection because nothing needs one.
  • Health milestones based on published research, summarized in plain English from hour 24 through year one.
